Subject: UPDATE: Professionals' Statement to End Fluoridation

Dear Victoria,

As we approach the end of 2007, I would like to update you on the progress we have made with the Professionals' Statement to End Fluoridation and our plans for 2008.

As you may remember we released the statement on August 9 with a magnificent total of over 600 signers, including a Nobel Prize scientist, 3 scientists from the prestigious National Research Council review on fluoride, and some of the world's leading environmental health scientists. (The statement, and full list of signers, is available online at: http://www.fluoridealert.org/statement.august.2007.html )

Since our initial August launch, the total number of signers has risen to over 1,200. In the coming year, we hope to get the total to well over 2,000 and we would appreciate it if you would invite any of your colleagues to add their names to the Statement. Professionals can now sign the Statement online at: http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/2477/t/5221/signUp.jsp?key=2976

Since the statement was released it has garnered considerable press coverage including a feature on the ABC News affiliate in Washington DC. (See: http://tinyurl.com/2beekx). In addition, our efforts to have the issue of fluoridation revisited by the scientific community received a considerable boost with a breakthrough article in the widely read magazine Scientific American. The January, 2008 issue carried an 8-page article entitled "Second Thoughts About Fluoride." For those interested in receiving a free pdf copy of this article, please email us at michael@fluoridealert.org

One of the ways we have chosen to give the Professionals' Statement further mileage in 2008, is by producing -- with the help of a professional filmmaker -- a series of online video vignettes with some of the signers. The first vignette will feature Dr. Bill Osmunson, a dentist from Oregon, and will be available on our website shortly.

You can help us still further with our efforts, a) by volunteering to be one of the professionals interviewed (taking into account the feasibility of getting a TV crew to your location) and b) by sending a donation to help cover the costs of this important venture and all the other things we will be doing to end fluoridation in 2008.

To make a donation please go to http://www.FluorideAction.net and click on the Donate link at the top of the page. Alternatively, you may simply write out a check to AEHSP and send it to AEHSP, 82 Judson Street, Canton, NY 13617. Remember, if you are a US citizen, your contributions are tax deductible (through our parent body the American Environmental Health Studies Project, AEHSP, which has 5013c status).

Thank you again for signing the Statement and any other help you can give us in 2008.

Sincerely,

Paul Connett,
Executive Director,
